Information
Gunpowder green teas are produced by tightly rolling the leaves after steaming them. This produces a tea that looks like pellets of gunpowder which is how it got it's name. When hot water is poured over the tea you can see it expand rapidly, this being a very compact tea less is needed eg: 1 spoonful instead of 2. The benefits of this form of tea is that it is tightly packed so takes up less space when transporting and it can be stored for a very long time without any significant deterioration.
Formosa Gunpowder can be drunk at any time of the day.
Milk not recommended for green tea.
This tea is best brewed multiple times. If you really want to get the most out of this tea, start with the brewing temp and time low, eg, 70°C for 3 min, then slowly increase temperature and time in small increments as the flavour starts to pale. You can easily get upward of 4 good brews from 1 serving when more experienced with your own style.
Great with a little honey or sugar, but best taken straight up.
Works well as a base if you're looking to make flavoured teas such as Moroccan Mint. We have this tea already mixed for you here: Green Menthos, but if you want to mix your own, I suggest using 5-10% spearmint in brewing, as a starter. Or even try your own twist with peppermint, as we're hearing a few of our customers are doing now.
Also delicious iced and cold-brewed.
Iced Tea
Make as for hot, but add extra tea - double the amount of tea per cup is recommended.
When the tea has cooled a little, pour over ice and then serve.
Cold Brew
For a smoother taste experience.
Place the tea in a jug and add cold water.
Leave to infuse for a few hours (or overnight in the fridge).
Strain and enjoy.
